QUPED is an initiative at Michigan State University focused on probability, probabilistic techniques in mathematics, and their myriad applications.  Tools derived from probability — for example, stochastic process and control theory formulations of PDEs, entropy/energy arguments from statistical mechanics and Levy models of jump processes — have broad application to many important scientific phenomena, as well as to financial and actuarial models.
