Welcome to the Department of Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Colloquiums - Monday at 4:00 pm room 204 McNutt Hall*

The GGPE Departmental Colloquium series is a public forum for the dissemination and discussion of research and topics pertaining to the Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering fields. Invited presentations are given by visiting scholars and professionals, as well as by Missouri S&T Faculty and students. The colloquium provides an important connection between the greater scientific and engineering community and ourselves. It serves to stimulate intellectual creativity as well as showcase the GGPE department. All faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students are encouraged to attend. The public is cordially invited. "Meet and Greet" socials with lite refreshments will begin at 3:30 pm in the McNutt Atrium.

GGPE Colloquium




GGPE Colloquium at a Glance:

Colloquiums are held in room 204 McNutt Hall on Mondays from 4:00 to 4:50 PM.
Alternative meeting times and locations at times may be necessary and will be announced. 
  • Meet and Greet Social begins at 3:30 pm in the McNutt Atrium.
  • Attendance requires professionalism.
  • Colloquium begins at 4:00 pm with announcements. Please be seated.
  • Brief announcements from student clubs are welcome.
  • Please set all phones to silent.
  • Please avoid private conversations during the talk.
  • If you need to leave early, leave quietly and don't let the door slam.
  • Respectful attentiveness during the talk is expected
  • Questions pertaining to the subject matter are welcome from all.
  • Extended conversations can take place after the colloquium.



Geology & Geophysics Seminar Courses

The undergraduate (Geo 4010) and graduate (Geo 5010) seminar courses serve to introduce students to a discussion of current topics in the Geosciences and related fields. This is a required course for a BS in Geology and Geophysics.    
  • Meeting times coincide with the GGPE colloquiums.
  • Attendance and participation required.
  • Additional meeting times may be necessary.
  • Best practices for oral presentations discussed. 
  • Best practices for attending oral presentations discussed. 
  • Best practices for organizing and running colloquiums discussed.
