Our focus in class this trimester is nonfiction graphic novels.  Through a grant from the NEA Foundation, we have purchased some great titles for book discussions including Gettysburg: The Graphic Novel and Investigating the Scientific Method with Max Axiom, Super Scientist.  These and other texts will give students plenty of practice with exploring important features and organizational structures in both nonfiction and graphic novel texts.  Students will also have the opportunity to work with author Sarah Winifred Searle, illustrator and author of the Under the Apple Tree. The final product will be nonfiction graphic novels, narrated by the students themselves, on topics researched by students; an example page can be found here. Check back in soon for more updates.
