Important Announcement to Students and Parents
"Beginning Monday, November 27th, the administration of Penquis Valley School will be adopting a low tolerance approach for behaviors and threatening commentary related to gun violence. Examples of what we are addressing can include (but may not be limited to) making gun-style hand gestures towards students or staff, sharing gun-related imagery in an unwanted fashion, or sharing gun-related comments such that they cause concern among students or staff.

Moving forward there will be no warnings for any student who offends this policy, and a 1-day, out of school suspension will be automatically issued the first time. A second offense will result in a 10-day out of school suspension where the student will not be allowed to return until his/her parents meet with the building principal.

I know you will agree that no child, parent, community member, or staff person should ever feel unsafe in our school, and this is a measure that will help reassure everyone that we are being proactive in ensuring safety. Announcements will be read by homeroom teachers in the morning on Monday to remind all students of expectations in this regard, but we do kindly ask parents and guardians to begin this discussion with kids at home so that they understand what is okay and not okay beginning Monday.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and Happy Holidays.

Dan Ross"
