MES May Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

May is going to be a VERY busy month, as you can see on the Calendar of Events.  Don’t forget to appreciate your child’s teacher during Teacher Appreciation week May 7-11!!

Our Family Book Study is starting with a kickoff night on May 2, 5:30-6 at MES. All are invited to come hear about the program.  Students will then be given the book to take home. (One book per household.) The book is theirs to keep.  You will read the book together at home. Teachers will also read the book at school as a read-aloud to the class.  Comprehension questions will be included to help with discussion at the end of each chapter. The event ends with a celebration night- May 31st from 5:00pm-7:00pm.  We have chosen “County Fair” as our theme.  The 2-hour event will include games, events, crafts and the Darling’s Ice Cream Truck.  Dinner will be served to all families who attend! The Celebration will be a free event, and open to all Milo Elementary students and their families.

Milo Elementary is having our annual Book Swap.  This swap gives the children some new (to them) books to read at no cost to the parents.  We ask that each child donate at least one book (as many as you would like to donate) from home in good condition.  It can be any book that is appropriate for any grade from kindergarten through fifth grade. Mrs. Lavigne will help in collecting all the book donations and during the last week of school your child will select his or her ‘new’ book(s) to keep.  Please bring the books for the Book Swap to Milo Elementary library anytime before Friday, June 2.

The PTO has scheduled Spring Book Fair.  Milo’s will be held from May 15 th – 17 th .  The book fair will run from 7:30 am – 10:00 am each morning. This is a Buy 1 Get 1 fair.  We are also having a family night on Thursday, May 17, 5-7. The teachers will earn Scholastic Dollars based on the amount of sales and they will use this money to purchase books for their classrooms.  Our PTO is also hosting a Spring Fling. This will be for PreK-4 students, 10-1 on Saturday, May 19 at BES.

I know we have had some warm days but we are still having chilly days as well.  A lot of kids have been coming to school in flip flops and sandals. These are not appropriate for outside at this point so please pack sneakers to wear for recess (and phys. ed.).

*Reminder- DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL!  Thank you*
