Welcome!

Welcome to the 2018-2019 second grade classroom website! It is my hope that this site will give parents an idea of what we are doing in the classroom, homework students have, reminders of events and to also share all of the wonderful things your children are doing! I will be updating the site at the beginning of each months as well as when school events are coming near, or I have a message about something going on in the classroom.

A little about me...

This is my 4th year teaching at Prescott Memorial School and I absolutely love it. I graduated from the University of Maine in 2012 and soon after graduating I worked with at risk children in a school environment for a short time before spending two years working at a Montessori school in the 1-3 grade classroom. My husband and I live in Washington with our two crazy dogs and we enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking and spending time outdoors together. One of our favorite places to go is to the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

I feel very fortunate to be able to instill a love of learning in all of my students as I help them grow socially, emotionally and academically. I believe it's very important to guide the child, but to also give students the freedom to take charge of their own learning, engage in hands on activities, and really make their learning their own. Children are so capable, and when given the chance, can often surprise us.

Second grade is an important time for children socially and emotionally. They are figuring out where they fit in, who their friends are, and what role they play in the classroom. Many students will take on leadership roles and it's important at this age that students are encouraged to play an active role in the classroom, that they know all of their opinions and thoughts are important, and that they feel significant and welcome in the classroom community. I strive to create a classroom environment where all of my students feel welcome, loved, and comfortable to speak their mind in a constructive and respectful way.  We will talk a lot this year about what it means to be respectful, responsible, ready and safe at school, and those will be our main expectations at Prescott in all grades.

I look forward to working with you and your children and sharing in the wonderful things they will learn, discover and experience this year. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have!
