How does your experience of the world differ from other English speakers?
How does our culture affect and influence
our ability to make choices?

This unit asks you to think about the cultural differences of the many people who use the English language. It covers one of the core topics for English B by investigating 'social relationships' but also explores the topic of 'cultural diversity'.

In this unit you will investigate language, cultural identity and self-identity, and analyse the way different people interrelate and behave — as members of a community, individually and in groups.
Through a study of the film Bend it LIke Beckham, along with extracts from the novel, you will consider how the different cultural identities and systems operating within the English language affects members' abilities to make choices. You will also explore how different speakers of English have different cultural experiences whilst sharing a common language.
