The end of the year is just around the corner and will be here before we know it. I would like you to share a few reminders with your student to assist us with a smooth ending to the year.

First, as the weather gets warmer, dress code can become an issue. Clothing must cover underwear/undergarments and midriff. Examples of inappropriate clothing are large armhole tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, cropped tops or backless tops. Clothing, hats, and/or personal items that are found to be distracting to the educational process are also not permitted at school. See Page 13 of your agenda book for more information on the dress code.

Secondly, I would like you to remind your student about our cell phone policy. Chaparral Middle School prohibits the display, activation, and use of electronic signaling devices, including cell phones during school hours (8:00a.m.-3:20p.m.). If a cell phone is seen or heard during school hours, it will be sent to the office where a parent or guardian will need to pick it up and students will receive a warning. If it happens again, in addition to parents picking up the phone, students will also receive a consequence. See page 8-9 of agenda book for more details. If you need to reach your student during the day, please call the main office and we will get the message to them. There is also a phone in the main office that students can use to contact you during the day.

Finally, we have seen an increase in students chewing gum on campus. Please remind your student that there is no gum chewing allowed on campus. This includes, before school, during lunchtime, and afterschool. Careless disposal of gum in drinking fountains, on furniture, and on floors presents sanitation, cleansing problems and costly repairs.

I would like to thank you for being involved in your student’s education and for encouraging them to continue to make good choices on campus.
