What are my duties as an SHH member?

COMPROMISO ACADEMICO ·   academic commitment

      • Currently enrolled in Spanish 3 or higher
      • ALL MEMBERS MUST TAKE THE NATIONAL SPANISH EXAM IN THE SPRING
      • Publication in ¡Albricas! (National magazine), submission to UNO writing contest, acceptable entry to UNL Language Fair or other Spanish competition AND/OR Spanish exams, such as AP, IB or SAT II
      • maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or better and a Spanish GPA of 3.5 or better
      • be an example in Spanish class (and other classes, but especially there) of a model Spanish student, passionate about communicating in Spanish, interacting in the culture and learning 

COMPROMISO COMUNITARIO: ·  community commitment - minimum 12 hours, 6 per semester

                        For example: 

      • Teach Spanish classes at Harvey Oaks (fall/spring) or Ezra Millard (spring)
      • Volunteering at an organization serving Spanish-speaking clientele
      • Volunteering at a Hispanic event in South Omaha
      • Spanish peer tutor in counseling center*
      • Organizing cultural events at Millard North*

*may NOT be used for all 12 hours; you must work in the community with actual Hispanic clientele for at least 2 hours per semester

All hours must be reported immediately after completion for approval through www.trackitforward.com. If Sra. Jensen is not the supervisor, please have the supervisor contact her at tmjensen@mpsomaha.org to verify your service. 

COMPROMISO GLOBAL  ·   global commitment 

      • Involvement in a global issue affecting Spanish-speakers
      • Global outreach to Spanish-speaking countries*

 *all members will participate in the chapter’s chosen project to provide aid to a cause in a Spanish-speaking country

INTEGRITY ·   

Students must continue to show academic integrity and character as noted by no recorded incident of cheating, plagiarism, misconduct, insubordination, or intentional dishonesty (in any class).
