Julie Baker


Mrs. Julie Baker received her Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology and Secondary Education from Kansas State University located in Manhattan, Kansas. After graduation she taught high school FCS classes at an International Baccalaureate high school in Kansas City for four years. While working, she attended graduate school and received her Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction. In addition, at this time, a wedding cake designer mentored her to create a side business. Julie and her family moved to Omaha seven years ago and that is when she became a stay at home mom. She still has a love for baking and extravagant cake decorating, but she is ready to be back in the classroom to educate and work with students once again! The classes she will be teaching include Everyday Living, Culinary Skills and Advanced Culinary Skills. Julie and her husband, Travis Baker, married in 2007 and have two daughters and a golden retriever.

Shelby Bockelmann


Mrs. Shelby Bockelmann  received her bachelor’s degree from Wayne State College in Family and Consumer Sciences. This upcoming school year will be her third year teaching at Millard South High School. Currently, she teaches Healthy Living, Interior Design, and Creative Design.

Shelby and her husband, Cole, enjoy traveling, camping, visiting family in Iowa, and enjoying time at home with their cat, Roger.

Natalie Peterson


Mrs.Peterson received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in Family and Consumer Sciences. She then went on to receive her master’s degree from Wayne State College in Curriculum and Instruction. This coming fall she will finish her library science degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  This upcoming year will be her eleventh year teaching, tenth year at Millard South teaching both Everyday Living and Intro to Foods and Nutrition. She will be serving as co-department head alongside Mrs. Vanderbeek.

Natalie enjoys many activities outside of school including spending time with her husband and three boys, Carter, Blake, and Garrett. With a family history immersed in athletics, she enjoys anything ‘sports’ including Husker basketball and football, running, spending time at the lake, camping and traveling.


Barb Vanderbeek



 Mrs. Barbara Vanderbeek has been at Millard South for 8 years in the FCS department. She completed her undergraduate degree and teaching endorsement at the University of Nebraska, and Master's degree at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska.  Currently, she teaches Child Development, Sewing/Clothing class and Everyday Living.  She is an Omaha native, and enjoys lots of outdoor sports and activities. Travel is also an important part of life as Barb's travels take her all over the United States and Europe.  She also enjoys time at home with her husband and children, as well as her 4 dogs who are near and dear to her heart.
