Welcome to READ 180 and Physical Education

READ 180 Program:
READ 180 is an intensive reading intervention program that helps educators confront the problem of adolescent illiteracy and special needs reading on multiple fronts, using technology, print, and professional development. READ 180 is proven to meet the needs of struggling readers whose reading achievement is below proficient level. The program directly addresses individual needs through differentiated instruction, adaptive and instructional software, high-interest literature, and direct instruction in reading, writing, and vocabulary skills.

Physical Education:

**Please Remember Tennis Shoes and Appropriate Clothing

Each week we start our class with 10 minutes of fitness. We also talk about nutrition and the importance of activity.  The rest of instruction time is spent on skill-based activities.  Areas covered are from the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations:  Motor Skills and Movement Patterns, Content Knowledge, Fitness and Physical Activity, Personal/Social Behaviors and Values. Our goal at the end of the year is a 10-minute continuous jog test.

Our Physical Education class will also be incorporating the EPEC program. EPEC (Exemplary Physical Education Curriculum) is an award-winning physical education curriculum aligned with the NASPE standards.  EPEC teaches students knowledge and skills. It also fosters the competence and confidence they need to enjoy physical activity for a lifetime.

A healthy lifestyle includes both nutrition and physical activity to positively affect a child’s health and academic performance.
