WELCOME all 5th grade students and their parents!  I am looking forward to working with all of you!

**Plans are subject to change**

English Language Arts Block:
Each day begins with a sentence warm-up highlighting mechanics, usage, and grammar errors for the students to correct. This is followed by Daily Language Review which supports the Common Core Standards and methodology.  It focuses on expanding useful academic and idiomatic vocabulary, using language, and practicing language in the context of reading and writing.
The primary focus of reading is comprehension.  We are using a book called Best Practices in Reading which is a research-base program for improving reading comprehension. The program also give the students numerous opportunities to write and discuss varied texts.

11/16:  Working through lesson #4

The class concentrates on the early history of the United states beginning with the study of American history with American Indian people before the arrival of European explorers and concludes with the adoption of the Bill of Rights in 1791.
