I am Michael Hensley, music teacher at Burroughs Community School.
I earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. I have also earned Mastery Teaching Certificates in Orff and Kodaly pedagogies from the University of Saint Thomas. I received a Masters Degree in Teaching and Learning from Saint Mary’s University.
I began teaching for Minneapolis Public Schools since the fall of 1996. I have also taught music privately and served as a church music director for a couple decades.
I believe that students should enjoy a general music classroom in which they engage in music by singing, playing instruments, moving, and listening.
I am persuaded that singing in tune is a skill that can be developed in all students thus affording them a lifetime of joyful music making.
When not teaching, I am often at the off-leash dog park with Carl, my Rottweiler mix.
