 Curriculum Improvement Process

Mount Vernon Community School District’s K-12 Curriculum requires collaborative work in order to align our efforts to ensure its effectiveness.  It is to that end that we are willing to examine all practices and their impact on learning. 

Collaboration is “a systemic process in which we work together, interdependently, to analyze and impact professional practice in order to improve our individual and collective results”.

                             –DuFour, DuFour, & Eaker (2002)

Teams will be formed as Professional Learning Communities based on curriculum.  Attendance center teams will meet regularly, and vertical teams will meet across attendance centers at least twice a year.   Research supports PLC work as our best hope for “sustained, substantive improvement.” –DuFour

 

PLC Work will be done with

·      Norms will be established and followed

·      SMART Goals will be used

·      Collaboration will focus on student learning and continuous improvement

·      Results-orientation  based on data

·      Teams will use “Critical Issues for Team Consideration” as their guide

·      4th Week-       Team SMART Goal

·      6th                   Week-Common Essential Outcomes

·      8th                   Week-First Common Assessment

·      10th                 Week-Analysis of Student Performance on First Common  Formative Assessment
