Extra Credit Film Opportunity: Tuesday Feb. 7th

posted Feb 3, 2012, 9:49 AM by ashley.carruth@mountainmiddleschool.org

On Tuesday, February 7th, the Back Space theater is screening an interesting film related to the topic of civil rights:  More than a Month. Bliss Bruen, one of the women who spoke to our class today about the film Daisy Bates has invited us to attend.

More than a Month  examines whether or not we should have one month designated for Black History.  Students can receive extra credit if they attend this film and write a short summary and reaction (1 page, double spaced) to the film.    I will be there and hope to see some of your faces!

Winter Carnival

posted Jan 28, 2012, 5:57 AM by ashley.carruth@mountainmiddleschool.org

Thank you to the students who helped organize the Winter Carnival to benefit 4 8th grade Legacy Projects!  A special thanks goes to Kelly Perry, Kaylie Evans, Jillian Stalker, Steve Jobson and Savannah Paviglianiti for all their hard work, organization and optimistic attitudes to pull off this event.  Also, thank you to all the parents and community members who came to volunteer and support the event.  We raised $500 in ticket sales alone!  This money will go to benefit 3 projects:  The Humane Society,  a Student Interest Group on intellectually challenging and fun games, the Lwala Community Alliance.

  • A big shout out to Jonah Morrison and Spencer Mooney for successfully completing their Legacy Project- a 5k running race to benefit Adaptive Sports.  Their race on Saturday and word on the street is that they ran a wonderful event!

  • Congratulations to Tilly Leeder and the entire cast for their wonderful performance in Seussical the Musical. The show was a wonderful balance of entertaining, comical and touching!  The cast did a terrific job!

  • Three cheers for Mattie Stubbe and Katie Austin for creating our school's first mural- a beautiful tree with quotes from each 8th grade student, located in the Eeva Reeder room!

  •  Big props to Al Thomson for starting our school's preliminary library as part of his legacy project- a book swap shelf located in the Eeva Reeder room.  If  you have any shelves and/or books to donate, please bring them in to my classroom for Al to add to the collection.

  • Congratulations to Dylan Kroes for his 3rd place award for his video "I Love Durango 2011!" at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards on January 19th!   He was by far the youngest award winner of the evening!

  • Big shout out goes to all the students who completed their legacy projects this year:  Tilly Leeder with her tutoring program at Needham; Brittan and Devin for their documentary on Fracking; and Derek and Willie (with support from Lane) for their ski bench donated to the school!
