What is the Governing Council?
The Governing Council (GC) is the governing and policy-making body of MMCS. The GC upholds the mission and vision of MMCS and thus adopts policies that support the fulfillment of the charter. The GC is responsible for ensuring the sound fiscal management and academic integrity of the school, and that the school is in compliance with local and federal laws that govern charter schools. The GC takes a leadership role in developing the school’s goals and strategic plan. The GC will form committees as pertinent to carrying out GC responsibilities. The GC is not responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school. The GC is responsible for hiring and firing the school Directorship, and evaluating the Directorship and operations of the school. The GC will guide the Directorship through approved policy or through directives approved at GC meetings. The GC chair is the liaison with the school Directorship. Parent, staff, and community input is welcome and all GC meetings are open to the public. The GC promotes a collaborative approach to governance and leadership of the school, and will encourage staff and community representation on relevant committees.
