Welcome to 8th grade social studies! This year we’ll be covering world studies with an emphasis on geography. You’ll be learning about the world around you –its cultural, historical, and physical features – and how they interact to create the world you live in.

Lessons for the year are based on the five themes of geography: location, movement, region, place, and human/environment interaction.

Some of the goals of this class are:

  1. To create and interpret a variety of maps, charts, graphs, and photos.
  2. To describe landforms and how they, along with location, influence the climate of a region.
  3. To compare and contrast cultures and to appreciate the differences between them.
  4. To investigate the history of regions in an effort to determine how the past has influenced the present.
  5. To study current events and explore how they affect our lives.
