The End is Near

posted Jun 9, 2017, 1:15 PM by mearl@moreland.org

Hello families,

It's hard to believe we just have a mere four days left together! Please remember our special dismissal times next week... Monday/Tuesday 1:25Wednesday 11:50 or 12:30 (as usual), Thursday 12:00.

On Tuesday, we will be leaving for Saratoga Springs around 9:00. Thank you to out many chaperons! You can meet us in our classroom by 8:45. There may not be room for all parents on the bus. If this happens, Mrs. Tibiyan is driving and you can carpool with her our each other.

Students should bring: bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, water, change of clothes (don't forget undergarments...), water bottle, sandals, hat/sunglasses, and a backpack or small bag to put everything inside! Students can also bring a disposable camera if they'd like to document their last 5th grade trip with friends. Students and chaperones will be served a BBQ lunch and popsicle! We will return to school just in time for 1:25 dismissal.

On Thursday, we will be having our brunch at 10:15 (right after snack recess). If you volunteered to something you can sent it to school with your student or it around 9:25-9:30 to our classroom. If you offered to help set up, you can start going to the 5th grade classrooms around 9:25-9:30 and carry items to the picnic tables (I'll also have some students help) and start setting items up in a way that makes sense for a buffet.  We typically use the 2 picnic tables closest to the blacktop for the food items and then students use the rest of the tables to sit down and enjoy their meal. Cleaning up will start around 10:45.

Our promotion ceremony will start around 11:00. We would love/very much appreciate the brunch to be completely cleaned up before we start the ceremony. The ceremony usually lasts around 30 minutes. Afterwards, students will come back and get any belongings from the classroom, say good -bye to me, and be on their way!

Let me know if you have any questions. This has been such a wonderful year and I'm looking forward to celebrating next week!

Pictures, Bio Tea, and Open House

posted May 19, 2017, 8:44 PM by mearl@moreland.org

Thank you so much for coming to our Biograph Tea today. It was so fun to watch your students take on their new personas. I saw lots of people taking pictures and it would be really great if you could add them to our shared google drive folder.

In addition, just a reminder next Wednesday is Open House. It is from 6:30-7:30. Your students will be presenting their final PBL project. I would like to put together a slideshow for Open House so PLEASE add any photos from the year into the shared google drive folder. I will be teaching students how to do this on Monday, so they can show you how :)

Science Camp!

posted Jan 17, 2017, 1:36 PM by mearl@moreland.org

Hello!

Below is a friendly list of reminders before we go to science camp next Tuesday 1/24.

Another gentle reminder is to be aware of your student's health- science camp is very exciting and rewarding, but that's only the case when everyone is healthy. If your child has a fever or is vomiting within 24 hours of our departure, please do NOT send your student to school. It will feel unfortunate in the moment, but it will feel worse if your child tries to come and feels miserable the whole time and could spread his/her sickness to others.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.
Thank you!
Marina

Welcome to 5th Grade!

posted Aug 15, 2016, 9:18 PM by mearl@moreland.org

Welcome to 5th grade! It am very excited to have all of you join me in room 20 this year. Last year I continued the journey of trying to infuse my classroom with technology. We will continue on that path together with the hopes of keeping parents better informed, increase students engagement, and increasing achievement. Please check back here every week or so to see what we are up to in room 20. I can’t promise to update it at the same time, on the same day, but I will do my best to keep you informed and up-to-date about the learning taking place in our classroom.

The calendar on this web-site will be updated as soon as things get scheduled. Please let me know if you notice the calendar is missing something.

I look forward to having a great year with your students and you!

I can't believe the year is coming to an end! As the year closes, I like to ask families to make suggestions and rate the year. Your comments will allow me to continue to develop and grow as a teacher. I am continuously looking for ways to improve my practice and make students more successful. THANK YOU for taking the time to fill out this survey. Your HONEST feedback is important to me, and I appreciate all comments you contribute.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you and your child. Have a wonderful, relaxing summer!
