The Hamilton Award
The Hamilton Award recognized young people for their academic, personal, service and entrepreneurial accomplishments.  35 students from across the nation are selected annually as winners of the Hamilton Award and subsequently enrolled in the five-year Alexander Hamilton Scholarships Empowerment Program.  All applicants should be college bound and committed to participating in the rigorous five-year curriculum, designed to provide a comprehensive network of support and practical guidance to Alexander Hamilton Scholars as they transition from high school to college and college to career.  Each year of the program also includes an all expenses paid leadership conference hosted in various cities.  For more information or to apply, please go to the website www.hamiltonscholars.org or contact Amelia Moore at program@hamiltonscholars.org .  Deadline is January 16, 2018.

American Legacy Scholarship
The American Legion's Legacy Scholarship Fund provides college scholarship money to children of post-9/11 veterans who died on active duty, or have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.  Go to https://www.legion.org/scholarships/legacy/about  for more information.

Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Scholarship Opportunity

Rove Pest Control Scholarship

Students planning on attending the University of Northern Iowa should check into the large number of scholarships for new and returning students.  Apply using the UNI Scholarship application by January 15, 2018.  Apply for as many scholarships as you are qualified to increase your chances of success.  Good luck!

ACT Student Champion Award
Applications are open for the ACT Student Champion Award.  This award recognizes one student in each state who is tenacious and persistent, no matter the challenge, and is prepared for life after high school with a goal in mind and plan in place.  ACT Student Champions receive a $500 non-renewable scholarship, certificate, plaque and state-level recognition.  Applicants must have overcome challenges and can articulate education and career actions and have a composite ACT score of a 22 on a single test date.  Preference will be give to underrepresented and/or first generation college students.  Applications can be found at www.act.org/readinesschampions .  Due date is December 31, 2017.  Go to ccrc@act.org with any questions.

Buena Vista University
BVU will be selecting 15-18 first-year students to receive grant funding for the 2018-19 academic year as part of their new STEM CAREERS program.  Students will receive aid up to $5000 per year for up to four years and $2000 for a science sampler interim trip.  This funding is above and beyond other aid regularly provided to students.  Contact Gina Hartman at hartmang@bvu.edu for more information.

ASHRAE Chapter Local Scholarship Programs

Iowa Chapter
The Iowa Chapter has been awarding two annual student scholarships for several years.  We have an application form that each student applicant must complete.  The award is determined by a panel from the Student Activities Committee.  They use three mail determining factors: financial need, ASHRAE related study emphasis, and desire to stay in HVAC field of work.  Go to http://ashraeiowa.org for contact information.

Burger King Scholar program is now accepting applications.  Applicant must be a high school senior, a Burger King employee or child of an employee.  They must have a strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 2.5, and must be passionate about serving the community.  Must also be planning to attend a two- or four -year accredited university, college or vocational-technical school. Deadline is December 15, 2017.  See website below to apply.

Distinguished Young Women in Iowa is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in your women.  College scholarships are awarded at the state level and at the national level.  One representative will advance to the national program in Mobile, Alambama where they give away cash tuition scholarships.  Make new friends from around the state; participate in workshops on interviewing, public speaking and more.  You must be a senior in high school to participate.  Online application is due November 1, 2017 and you must attend an orientation session.  Go to www.distinguishedyw.org for information on the orientation sessions and further deadline dates.

The NFIB Young Entrepreneurship Awards are non-renewable scholarships created to recognize young people who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative.  The scholarships are valued between $2000 and $15,000.  The NFIB Young Entrepreneur program was established to raise awareness among the nation's youth of the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the building of America.  The student must be a graduation high school senior entering their freshman year at an accredited (not for profit) two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute.  Student must be running their own small business in order to be considered for an award.  For more information or to apply, go to www.nfib.com/foundations .  Deadline is December 18, 2017
