Your Google Apps for Education account comes with a calendar feature that can be used as an amazing communication tool between you and your students.  You can create a calendar for each or your classes, and each student in your classes can add your class calender to the master calendar of their Google account.  Click here to learn how.

The ability to have your students subscribe to your class calendar can revolutionize the way you manage your classroom information.  You can use your class calendar to communicate lesson plans and agendas as well as list assignment due dates.  Each calendar entry can have supporting documentation linked to it from your Google docs account.  Documents such as class notes or homework sheets can be uploaded to your Google Docs accounts and linked to from within your calendar.  Gone are the days of students losing homework handouts.  Students who are absent can also benefit from having the information posted in your calendar.  You can accomplish this by doing the following.

Step 1.    Upload the document you'd like to share with your students to your Google Docs.

Step 2.    From within Google Docs, place a check mark next to the document you'd like to link to from within your calendar.

Step 3.    Click on "Share"

Step 4.    Click on "Get the link to share."

Step 5.    If you want to restrict viewing of the document to those assigned a monmouthstudents.org account - click on the "monmouthstudents users only" tab.
If you want to make the document viewable to anyone with the link - click on the "get a link for anyone" tab.

Step 6.    Place a check mark next to "Allow anyone with the link to view."
If you'd also like students to be able to edit the document, place the check mark accordingly.

Step 7.    Highlight and copy the link in the box under "Share this link via email or IM:"

Step 8.     Paste that link within the description field when creating a new event in your classroom calendar.

Google's free online training that applies specifically to Calendar can be found here:
