The First Legal trip into a Monongahela National Forest Cave since 2009

Watch Video
This summer we joined the Monongahela National Forest for a graffiti clean up into Bowden Cave, becoming the first legal cave trip in the forest since 2009. As most cavers know, when White Nose Syndrome hit West Virginia the Forest Service enacted a blanket closure in hopes of giving bats a safe zone from the disease.  However, we were all pretty surprised at the amount of graffiti. We are filing for a continuation of the permit to Bowden Cave for 2015.

If you are interested in what we found check out the video.  If you or your grotto is interested in giving back to to the caves that give us so much joy contact us about return trips this summer.

Whether you are interested in exploration, science, photography, expeditions or short walks underground, chances are someone here will share your interest. If you would like to know more, get involved, we would be happy to welcome you to our grotto..
