Sec 1 2012

Departmental skill focus for Sec 1s: Grammar
- but all skills: reading comprehension, summary writing, cloze passages, free composition and situational writing will be explored during the year.

In alignment with the new GCE “O” and “N” Level EL Examination Syllabus (see EL_1128_2013; EL_1190_2013 and EL_1195_2013) we will be also looking at Visual Literacy (interpreting messages in pictures and graphics) and Listening Comprehension at the Sec 1 levels.

2012 Textbooks:

Sec 1E, 1N(A): All About English (Express/Normal Academic) – Pearson Longman
Sec 1N(T): All About English (Normal Technical) – Pearson Longman

Note to parents: Teachers are not required to use all the units in the textbook. In fact, they are encouraged to be innovative in their classroom teaching. Therefore only some of the textbook will be used in any given year. Parents are therefore encouraged to make use of the (MOE approved) textbook for home study, in preference to non-approved and often misleading drill-and-practice “assessment books”. This way, if the unit studied at home comes up later in class, the student will have a head-start over his classmates that day!.
