HOW IT WORKS:
There are 45 books on the middle school list. Students form teams of approximately 11, and each team is responsible for having collectively read all of the books on the list. Usually, each student reads about 8 of the books over the course of the school year. This enables us to have two students, from each team, read each of the books on the list.
Since all of the books on the list have to be read by each team, students frequently have to read books that are not their first choice. Renaissance credit is given for each quarter that a student reads at least 2 books and writes 3-5 questions for each book. Questions need to follow specific guidelines, outlined for students in the 'Reading Olympics' Schoology Group.
It is very important that students do not join Reading Olympics and then drop out before the competition because they have not read the books they committed to reading. This leaves the team without all of the books covered, which is unfair to those who have done their reading.
