Welcome to Cyber Challenge 2012

Sponsored by The MITRE Corporation, Career Technical Education Foundation (CTEF) and (ISC)2 to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines for cyber security.

Event Description

In support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) outreach, The MITRE Corporation, CTEF and (ISC)2 hosted a virtually distributed, national Capture the Flag (CTF) Competition. This event was an opportunity for students to compete against their peers in cyber security.

Teams of 4-5 students* competed to solve challenges covering topics such as steganography, software exploitation, computer forensics, cryptography, and networking.

An event kickoff web conference was held on June 28th to introduce the competition, review rules, and discuss the training available. Virtual cyber training and practice range were made available for teams to use while they prepared for the competition.

The CTF competition itself was held on July 9th and 10th. Each day consisted of a 10 hour session in which students compete for points by completing challenges. The official winners will be announced once team members have been identified in conjunction with their sponsoring institutions.

The winning team will receive four $1,000 college scholarships and vouchers to take the SSCP exam, qualifies to compete in a follow-on prestigious cyber security contest (details to be announced) and receives early consideration for participation in MITRE's Cyber Internship program**.
