My name is Karen Benson and I am thrilled to be at Minnehaha Academy to start off the 2013-14 school year with the Kindergarteners, First and Second graders! I love making music with these young students and watching their joy shine through in class. It’s contagious!
I have a B.A. in music education from the College of St. Benedict, a M.M. in saxophone performance from Northwestern University and have taken graduate courses in education at the University of St. Thomas. Over the course of my career, I have taught senior high band, junior high band, saxophone lessons, orchestra, pre-school and classroom music. I was a stay-at-home mom for many years and truly feel blessed to be back in the classroom and working with the amazing and dedicated staff at Minnehaha Academy.
Speaking of family, I am married and live in St. Paul with
my husband, Brett and our two delightful children. Olivia is a senior at
Minnehaha Academy and Henry is a seventh grader at Twin Cities Academy in St.
Paul. We also have a dog, Pepper, who is our most needy “child”. In my free time I like to tend to my
flowers, watch movies, cook, travel and listen to classical music.
