Dr. Zhongming Huang and Dr.Gregory Clements have been blazing the lecture capture trail on campus. They have been recording and distributing class lectures using Tegrity, Midland's lecture capture software. Dr. Huang has captured a total of 54 lectures that have been viewed over 1116 times, and Dr. Clements has created 99 recordings with 346 views and counting. Both instructors are using the recordings as supplemental instructional resources for their students in Astronomy, Physics and Statistics classes.

Google Docs in nursing

posted Apr 24, 2012, 8:35 PM by Jenna Olmer

Nursing instructors Melissa Heavican, Diana Moxness, Jean Goble and Cindy Delanie are using Google Docs to make submitting, grading and offering feedback a more efficient process in their clinical courses.

The instructors have created a Google Docs "collection" for every student in their class. They set the settings for each collection to be shared between the student and the instructor. Anytime the instructor or student would like to share clinical paperwork with the other, they simply drop it into the collection and it is accessible and editable by both parties.

If you have an idea for using Google Docs and collections in your class, let me know at olmer@midlandu.edu.

Coordinating with Google Docs

posted Apr 24, 2012, 7:55 PM by Jenna Olmer   [ updated Apr 24, 2012, 8:13 PM ]

Dr. Kathy Fuchser has plans to use Google Docs to help keep endorsement coordinators up-to-speed on education completion plans.

"One of the challenges in secondary education is to coordinate with endorsement coordinators to ensure timely completion plans are available - and accurate!" she says.

Kathy created a collaborative Google Spreadsheet that will be used as a template to share with endorsement coordinators.

"It allows me to provide a working schedule of education coursework to be completed and allows endorsement coordinators to add content area coursework in the template accurately," she adds.

Kathy hopes using Google Spreadsheets will expedite the sharing of information with endorsement coordinators and lead to more efficient progress.

FlipCams in the Classroom!

Midland University instructors Pat Geary and Dr. Jeremy Rehwaldt are incorporating FlipCams in their instruction. Both instructors have successfully created lesson plans using the FlipCam to have students create short videos or interviews, edit them, and post them on a share site for critique and comments, or present with classroom AV equipment.

FlipCams can be checked-out by students from the Luther Library.

Click here to access a How To for using FlipShare software to download and edit FlipCam videos. The FlipShare software is loaded on all lab computers on campus.

For more information on incorporating the FlipCam into your classroom instruction feel free to contact me.
