People who care to learn, learn to care

Strath Taieri is a full primary school (Y0-8)  located in Middlemarch, Otago. We are situated on Highway 87 in Middlemarch and are relatively isolated being 65km from Mosgiel and 84km from Dunedin.

Our school has a vision that all students will achieve to the best of their abilities and that we will develop along with our parents and community a rich holistic child, well prepared to take on the challenges in their life.  We pride ourselves on developing our children into confident, capable and energetic learners.  Our school is filled with happy students who enjoy learning, strive for excellence, care for one another and look to take on challenges.

We have a great supportive community ensuring our children have many and varied opportunities.  Our children are well supported by our community, our parents, teachers and their peers.  We have a wonderful learning community where we celebrate personal success, celebrate others' success and learn collaboratively.

History

The school was first opened in 1880 as a High School and has always been a focal point in the community. In 1975 it became a Full Primary and since then the area’s secondary students have either travelled to the Taieri College in Mosgiel or have attended boarding school. Most boarders attend schools in Oamaru or Dunedin.

The school enjoys extensive grounds and the development of these is on-going for the Board of Trustees and the community. All classrooms on the school site are older but well maintained. The Middlemarch Playcentre occupies a classroom in the school and is held one day a week. The Playcentre is an extended part of our school community.
