Hoyt's picture and the information below the newspaper articles were given to me by Hoyt's family. I want to thank Avery Carpenter, Elizabeth Carpenter Patterson and Suzie Carpenter for their help in getting me these pictures. The following information was received by email from Elizabeth Carpenter Patterson.
"I wasn't sure if you had any information on the man who would have been my great-uncle, Hoyt Carpenter. He was drafted in WWII and was killed instantly by a grenade that landed in his foxhole in Italy, a few days after his 19th birthday. There is a picture of him and either a copy or the original telegram sent to my great-grandmother Nettie Duncan about his death in the fellowship hall at Berry Chapel. I could potentially help with pictures, as could my grandfather (his brother) Avery. Avery still has the only remaining personal items of his that were recovered - a silver ring bought in northern Africa, a buffalo nickel (no date), and his dog tag."
