Mitchell High School is located in the northern mountains of Western North Carolina.  It is a comprehensive high school serving approximately 700 students, grades nine through twelve.  Mitchell High is situated in the center of Mitchell County, population approximately 15,000, between the towns of Spruce Pine and Bakersville.

More than 108 courses in 11 departments are offered, along with college preparatory English, Science, and Social Studies classes and advanced placement courses in English, Calculus, Spanish, Environmental Science, and United States History.  Mitchell High is on a block schedule of four classes per day for 90 minutes each.  Students have the potential to complete eight credits per year.  The school year is divided into two semesters with two nine-week grading periods each.
