That and Which

"That" and "which" are as semantically distinct as "uninterested" and "disinterested." Any sort of simplification of their meaning and that bit of semantic richness and complexity in our language—and, by rights, in our thought—is lost. This is a case where context and punctuation cannot compensate for the semantic loss.
