With the roster depleted by holiday travel, the Mt. Edgecumbe Braves could not keep up with the Sitka High Wolves wrestling team Nov. 23.
Sitka won the match 67-12. Jaylin Prince (285) and Michael Matthew (152) scored the only victories of the night for Edgecumbe, both by pin.
MEHS coach Mike Kimber said the team he fielded included only four varsity wrestlers. Kimber, without some of his better wrestlers, expected to lose to the tough Wolves but said "how bad was a bit of a surprise."
"That team I put out there probably would have been competitive and won a dual with almost any other team in the region," Kimber said, offering a compliment to Sitka High. "They're a tough team, they have a really tough dual team."
Sitka had 12 victories in the match, including 10 pins on a night when the seniors on the SHS team were honored. Next up for Mt. Edgecumbe is the Region V tournament, set for Dec. 3-4 in Craig.
