Mt. Edgecumbe Braves beat Haines in two conference games at B.J. McGillis
Gymnasium Feb. 18-19. The Braves won 87-31 Friday and 81-48 Saturday to improve
to 11-0 in conference play.
The game Friday was tied 6-6 before the Braves surged to a 26-9 lead at the end
of the first quarter. MEHS had a 59-15 lead at the half, and cruised to
victory. The Braves overwhelmend Haines with their speed, and the Glacier Bears
were no match for MEHS' pressure defense. The Braves created a bevy of
turnovers and converted easy buckets in transition on their way to the win.
Senior captain Sean Melovidov led the Braves with 20 points Friday, while
Jaylin Prince and Dominque Hall each had 14. Zach Ivanoff chipped in 13 before
leaving the game with a cut above his eye, the result of an inadvertent elbow from a Haines
Travante Williams had 10 points Friday, while Savion Waters and Brian Nick each
had 6. Tyler Swinton led Haines with 16 points.
The game Saturday followed a similar script: Edgecumbe led 23-10 at the end of
the first quarter and 46-14 at the half as they rolled to a 33-point win.
Waters had a team-high 19 for the Braves, while Prince added 16. Ivanoff
returned to score 10 points, while Melovidov and Williams each had 9 and
Dominique Hall added 8. Swinton dropped a game-high 25 for Haines.
