Class Name: Health & Wellness

Description: Course Prerequisites: None Graduation Requirements Met:  This semester long course fulfills the health credit and a ½ credit of physical education and is required for all students. Course Description:  This course meets Alaska as well as the National Health Education Standards. Goals include critical thinking, problem solving/decision making, and responsible citizenship.  Health topics relate to other disciplines such as art, literature, history, math , social studies, and music. The text and materials include “Project CRISS Strategies” (Creating independence through student-owned strategies).  The class is activity and project based that incorporate real-life health issues. Teaching strategies seek to achieve “health literacy” including Healthy People 2010, Community and family involvement, legal issues, and health projects.
