Class Name: Content Reading

Course Prerequisites: Students are placed in this class upon the recommendation of a teacher or councilor that feels the student would benefit from a structured environment for their academic success at MEHS. 
Graduation Requirements Met: This course counts as an elective grade. 
Course Description:  Students’ reading and writing skills are assessed during the first weeks of this class. Each student meets with the instructor once a week to establish appropriate goals. Additionally, students read independently, within guided reading groups, and with partners while practicing and learning reading strategies. Students also participate in guided writing groups during this class. Students receive no homework, nor are there any tests in this class. This class is used as an opportunity for students to work closely on course work for other content areas in order to gain a more complete understanding of the subjects being taught.
