Sunday through Tuesday of this week, Donovan Gurule and Sheldon Nelson represented MEHS in the Honor Choir at the annual Region V Music Honor Fest, held in Craig this year. This, along with the band that performs the same weekend, is an auditioned ensemble. Donovan and Sheldon were selected out of over 100 auditions submitted for spots in the choir. Over the course of two and a half days, the band and choir participated in nearly 19 hours of rehearsal, followed by a concert that was attended by members of the Craig and Klawock communities. This event provides opportunities for students from small schools to have the experience of singing in a large choir or playing in a large band and also challenges students with literature that they might not see at home while giving them the chance to meet and build friendships with music students from other schools. In April, MEHS will participate in the annual Music Fest, which will be held in Sitka and will feature more than 500 music students in various sizes and styles of performance ensemble.
