~We are Northrop Proud~

Who was Eliza Northrop?

By: Madelyn G, Trent K, and Elizabeth G

Do you know who Miss Eliza Northrop was? She was the first teacher to teach in Medina county in 1817. She was the first teacher to teach in a one-room log cabin in Medina Township. Eliza started the summer of 1817 with 23 children. Some of the children's names are Elizabeth, Mary Hamilton, and George Lucas. Miss Northop was also the first person married in Medina township. In fact, Eliza Northrop married Giles Barnes on March 23, 1818. We bet most people wish that Eliza would have known that in 2009, our school would be named in her honor.
