Sandhills Region NC / SC

The south-central region of North Carolina extending into northern South Carolina is commonly referred to as the "Sandhills".  There were a number of early-American Medfords that lived in this region that we know very little about.  This is a timeline of these individuals.  If you have any records pertaining to these Medfords, please email them to jon@medfordgenetics.com.

1759-1760

Jeptha Medford is listed on the Company muster roll of Captain Alexander Mcintosh where he served in the Cherokee Expedition to Fort Price George in Georgia. The men on this muster roll were found to be from the Florence/Dillon/Marion region of South Carolina.

Jeptha Medford, John Medford and George Morgan witnessed a deed of sale from William Morgan to Ewell Watkins in what is now Moore County which was created out of Cumberland in 1784.  A Joseph Morgan of South Carolina was part of the deed as well.
There is an abstract of this transaction in vol. II of "Cumberland County Deeds," from Deed Book 4, #361. A Jeptha Medford appears in Moore/or Montgomery Co. -- next door west --County records for a while longer and there are extant deeds in Moore County between 1790 and 1810 that list property held by a "John Morgan Medford."
