A Mardi Gras Meanwhile, Back at Cafe Du Monde... at the Baton Rouge Decorators Club

posted Mar 7, 2019, 1:23 PM by Peggy Sweeney-McDonald   [ updated Mar 19, 2019, 1:21 PM ]

Our first ever "Mardi Gras" themed Meanwhile, Back at Cafe Du Monde... was on February 5th at the Baton Rouge Country Club for the Baton Rouge Decorators Club luncheon.  Peggy Sweeney-McDonald hosted the show and invited some of the past storytellers to join the fun for this lovely "ladies who lunch event".

Storytellers included:
  • Pam Bordelon of The Advocate's Pam's Party Line, who spoke about attending the Louisiana Mardi Gras in Washington D.C. while Todd Grave of Raising Cane's was King. He hosted an elaborate party without one chicken finger but did have great food including a "Cheese Room" which once Pam found she never wanted to leave.
  • Heather Day, Owner of The Red Cake Event Company, who spoke about her husband creating Shoysters (grilled oysters with shrimp on top) for their annual Spanish Town Mardi Gras party.
  • Fairleigh Jackson, Executive Director of Preserve Louisiana, who spoke about growing up in New Orleans and losing her Dad's favorite ice chest (which had dates and size of all the fish he had caught for the last twenty years) in the parking lot of the Endymion Ball.
  • Karen Profita of Audubon Louisiana complete with her crown from being Queen Artemis spoke about dieting to get into her Queen's gown and how she couldn't wait to eat her stale sandwiches after the Ball but unfortunately, her drunk friend dropped them on the street on the way back to her hotel.

and Pam Bordelon (seated)

We all adorned Mardi Gras Beads, hats, boas and Karen Profita, a former Queen of Artemis wore her Crown. It was a festive afternoon with delicious food with beignets served for dessert! After the luncheon, the Meanwhile, Back at Cafe Du Monde... coffee table/cookbook by Pelican Publishing was available for purchase and signing by the storytellers.

Thank you Cathy Ellison Smith, who attended the Meanwhile, Back at Cafe Du Monde... show in September at the Old Governor's Mansion. She invited us to be the entertainment at the Decorator's Luncheon and asked if we could tell Mardi Gras Food stories. It opened up a new way for Meanwhile, Back at Cafe Du Monde...storytellers to share new food stories!.

The Decorator's Club Board of Directors with Pam, Peggy and Karen.

Our favorite photographer, Troy Kleinpeter of Kleinpeter Photography was on hand to photograph the event!
