Welcome to the 2017-2018

Mount Desert Island High School Program of Studies

September 2017

Dear Students and Parents,

This publication outlines the courses we will offer next year and the required standards for graduation. Please read this document carefully so that you can make informed decisions for next year and beyond.

COURSE OFFERINGS. Each year we review our offerings to create courses that serve student needs and interests. The course offerings are constantly changed and refined, so please look through these courses to see what may have changed and to plan for your future.  As you read, please keep in mind that it is possible that not all the courses listed will be offered, depending on scheduling and enrollment.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS. Please make sure that you are planning your progress toward graduation. To ensure that students have a well-rounded education and to meet state requirements, we have a range of graduation requirements. These are outlined in the “Academic Requirements” section. These requirements include course credits, demonstration of achievement of the Maine Learning Results, community service, and a senior exhibition.

Our Guidance Department is here to assist you with planning your progress through high school. If you have any questions, please contact your Guidance Counselor for clarification. They will be happy to assist you.

Mark Carignan – Freshmen Guidance Counselor

Michele Gurtler – Guidance Director/Counselor ( A-K)

Megan Rowell - Guidance Counselor ( L-Z)

Mary Wallace – Guidance Administrative Assistant

MAKE IT COUNT. We offer an extraordinary range of programs and resources here at MDI High School. Our hope is that every student will find a place where they feel challenged and supported. Please use this Program of Studies to help you plan a rich high school experience.

Sincerely,

Matt Haney, Principal
