Welcome  to or back to Chase City Elementary's Early Childhood Special Education class! In our classroom there is a lead teacher, myself, Mrs. Worley, and a paraprofessional, Mrs. White. We are excited for the opportunity to teach your child this 2018 - 2019 school year. The children work on the their Individual Education Plan goals, along with and including sharing, learning about numbers, how to count, learning about the alphabet and identification (depending on level they are at), learning about colors, improving fine (such as, writing, coloring and painting skills and putting puzzles together) and gross motor skills (catching a ball, running and climbing). We also work on social skills (how to get along with others, taking turns in play and in conversational skills), improve their vocabulary (their knowledge of their world), and lots more. The children learn to transition from work to play and then back to work, this is very hard for some children. We use a structured teaching approach along with visuals to aid the children in understanding their schedule, surroundings and what is expected of them. Each child has a journal that goes home daily to let the parents know what we did each day. We do a lot of work, but it is also a fun place to learn. Each week we spend time in a general education pre-Kindergarten (pre-K) class for circle time (3 days a week) and math (2 days a week). We eat next to the pre-K class at breakfast and lunch and are on the playground for recess  with a pre-K class.
