Welcome to the  2017-2018 school year at South Hill Elementary. My name is Mrs. Sabrina Martin and I have been teaching for the past 23 years.  Most of those years have been in fifth grade in Language Arts, Reading & Writing.  I enjoy spending time with my family and especially my two grandchildren.  I have a strong passion for reading.  I received both my Bachelor's and Master's degree from Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.  My "happy place" is at the beach with a good book and surrounded by family and friends.  I am looking forward to a successful school year with your child.  You may reach me by email, smartin@mcpsweb.org or during my planning time which is 2:30 - 3:15.
Week of Nov. 13 - 21, 2017

This week the students will be reading a nonfiction passage in the Journeys book, Lesson 10,  about cougars.  Our reading skill for the week is Main idea and details.  Quizzes on spelling and vocabulary will be on Thursday this week.  On the following Monday and Tuesday, students will be writing a formal paper as a practice writing assignment that will be leading up to a state requested assignment in January on Writing.   It will be a great idea to practice writing sentences to complete a multi-paragraph paper, possibly five paragraphs in length.   Please take time to review homework and ask your child about their day at school.  Together we will be successful.  Have a blessed week.
