Welcome to the  2016- 2017 school year at South Hill Elementary. My name is Mrs. Sabrina Martin and I have been teaching for the past 22 years.  Most of those years have been in fifth grade in Language Arts, Reading & Writing.  I enjoy is spending time with my family and especially my two grandchildren.  I have a strong passion for reading.  I received both my Bachelor's and Master's degree from Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.  My "happy place" is at the beach with a good book and surrounded by family and friends.  I am looking forward to a successful school year with your child.  You may reach me by email, smartin@mcpsweb.org or during my planning time which is 2:30 - 3:15.

March 20, 2017

My students will be reading an informational passage about America's early cowboys.  We will be working on reading "nonfictional passages" and taking time to discuss the main ideas and details within a passage.  April 27th, the Reading SOL TEST will be given to all fifth grade students at South Hill Elementary. You may go to the Virginia Dept. of Education website and there are practice reading released tests.

Please try to spend time with your child practicing reading short stories, news reports, and even library books.  Pause between pages to ask questions and check for understanding.  Each moment will help bring us all closer to feeling success as we draw closer to the state standard tests (SOLs) in May.

Also, classes are competing for the Accelerated Reader trophy each week.  We have to read, read, and read some more!!!!!!

Have a blessed week!
