Welcome to the music room at South Hill Elementary School!

My name is Catherine Hite.  This is my third year teaching at SHE.  I have been teaching for 16 years.  I have taught K-12 vocal and instrumental programs.  My love for music and teaching far exceeds my classroom.  I have been a member of NaFME, VBODA,Community Band, NEA, South Hill Music Clue, and many other organizations.  I have also led and performed at many churches in Mecklenburg and Lunenburg Counties. In my spare time, I love to watch my children participate in sports.  My daughter, Ainsley, is in fourth grade, and my son, Braeden, is in Pre-K.  They bring lots of fun and excitement to my life on a daily basis.

My planning period is from 9:00-9:45am every day.  If you have questions or concerns, this would be the best time to reach me.  You can call the school at (434)  447-8134, or you can email me at chite@mcpsweb.org

My schedule is based on a five day rotation.  If you are wondering when your student has music, please see my calendar page.  There will be a list of which teacher's homerooms come to me each day.  On that page, you will also find any other "musical events" that will take place.

I would love to see all of our students become active listeners and performers.  Throughout this year, students will have many opportunities to sing, dance, play instruments, and create their own masterpieces.  Students will learn about different genres of music, as well as music from different cultures.  It is through these experiences that students will be able to create meaningful connections to their core content subjects.

I am very excited to announce that through the generous donations from our community, through the Donors Choose program, students in grades 3-5 will learn how to play the ukulele.  This instrument will provide another avenue for creativity for our students.
