Course Description:

This course will utilize the standards set forth in the  Virginia Standards of Learning for grade 11 English to implement rigorous instruction in the areas of writing, oral language, research, literature, and an overall goal of strong communication skills.

Class Expectations:

  1. Follow all school rules as set forth in the student handbook.
  2. Be respectful of yourself, your classmates, and your teacher(s).
  3. Be prepared for class each day.
    1. Bring ALL materials that have been assigned for this class.  I will let you know in advance if there is a day that you won’t need to do so.
  4. Be responsible for all missed work.  I do not accept any late work (unless you are absent from school in which case I follow the policy set forth by the county).
  5. Cheating will not be tolerated.
  6. Arrive on time.  This means you are in your seat ready for class to begin when the tardy bell rings.
  7. Do not do work from any other class in my class.  I will take those materials and have a conference with that teacher concerning your materials.
  8. No food or drinks of any kind are tolerated in class.
  9. DO NOT groom in my class (combs, picks, brushes, makeup, cologne/perfume, etc.).
  10. Be ready to contribute to this class.  Each student is a vital component to our learning community.  You will be expected to do your part!

 Plagiarism, Cheating, and Academic Integrity

Plagiarism is the practice of copying words, sentences, images, or ideas for use in written or oral assessments without giving proper credit to the source.  Cheating is defined as the giving or receiving of illegal help on anything that has been determined by the teacher to be an individual effort.  Both are considered serious offenses and will significantly affect your course grade.  Please refer to the Student Code of Conduct booklet for additional information.
