· Bring units and lessons that you can adapt for your UBD unit
· Bring snacks and lunch will be on your own

8:30 - 10:00 Understanding by Design (UBD) Unit Planning: general overview and desired results

· Backwards design in a nutshell
· The Six Facets of Understanding
· Developing a big idea and essential questions
· Meet as a team to decide on desired results (Understanding, Knowledge and Skills) for your unit
10:00-11:00 Demonstration of addressing NETs Standards using technology tools
11:00-12:00 Identifying which NETs standards will be emphasized in the unit
12:00-1:00 Lunch on your own
1:00-2:00 Demonstration of addressing NETs Standards using technology tools
2:00-4:00 Complete Stage One (Identify Desired Results) in the UBD Unit Template

· Determining Assessment Criteria (using the Six Facets of Understanding)
· Designing performance assessment Strategies (using GRASPS)
· Designing assessment tools (using GRASPS)
· Meet as a team to identify/develop criteria, strategies and tools to assess overarching understanding of the unit
10:00-11:00 Demonstration of addressing NETs Standards using technology tools
11:00-12:00 Assessment of related understandings, knowledge and skills for the unit

  • Meet as a team to identify criteria, strategies and tools to assess related understandings, knowledge and skills for the unit
  • Identify how assessment/student demonstration of NETs standards have been embedded within unit assessments of understandings, knowledge and skills
12:00-1:00 Lunch on your own
1:00-2:30 Understanding by Design (UBD) Unit Planning: planning learning experiences

  • Meet as team to plan learning experiences that support student development of desired results
2:30-3:00 Critical friends review of draft unit plans
  • Teams provide critical friends feedback on each others’ units
3:00-4:00 Ordering of Materials/Wrap-Up
  • Teams select technology hardware and software to order that supports unit goals, assessments and learning activities
  • Teams identify free software and applications that need to be installed on classroom/lab computers at sites in support of units
  • Teams finalize timeframe for units
  • Teams set first tentative first meeting date at sites with DEP mentors
  • Other questions/items that need to be addressed before we leave today?
