Welcome to 6th Grade English!

My name is Ms. Conklin and I am honored to be teaching you this year at the Fowler School. It’s important to me that we each have the opportunity to learn about one another in order to have an incredible start to the year.  I’m very excited to take on this new challenge and meet many new educators and students.

This year, my goal is to provide each of you different opportunities to represent your understanding of a text or concept. This might be written, visual, or auditory. I love displaying student work around my classroom! We will be covering a wide range or genres and texts this year - including short stories, poems, Young Adult fiction and nonfiction.

One piece of advice I'd like to give to my students is to learn how to be your own advocate. Ask for clarification when you are confused. Request help if you feel like you’re overwhelmed. Make sure you put your best foot forward!

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. My email address is kconklin@maynard.k12.ma.us .

Important guidelines for you to remember:
  1. Arrive to class on time (or have a pass with you if you are late).
  2. All necessary materials should be brought with you to class each day. This is often referred to as PATH (pencil, assignment notebook, three-ring binder, homework). The English binder will be set up with four tabbed sections. I will be doing random PATH checks throughout the year and they will be included as part of the student’s grade.
  3.  Turn in all assignments on time. Points may be deducted from homework, projects, or other assignments turned in late.
  4. Do you best work by putting in a full effort and staying focused on your work while in class. Be sure to actively participate in class discussions and activities.
  5. All assignments should follow the correct format and should have your first and last name, the date, and block in the heading. Most class work should be done in pencil. Final drafts, papers, and most homework assignments should be done in pen or typed.
  6. ALWAYS bring an independent reading book
