Counselor's Corner / Zones of Regulation

About my classroom:

The main focus in my classroom is to help students develop and maintain critical social and emotional skills so that they can reach their goals and lead happy, fulfilling, and productive lives. We spend a lot of time discussing self-regulation strategies using The Zones of Regulation curriculum. With this curriculum, students learn to identify how they and others are feeling, how the actions of one person might effect another, what some of their triggers are, and what tools work best for them in different situations to help them stay calm and focused so they can tackle life’s daily challenges. We work a lot on how to form and maintain healthy relationships with others through empathy, effective communication, and flexibility. Each student has individual needs and goals therefore, the content and curriculum is constantly changing to meet those individual needs. I strongly encourage students and their families to participate in the planning and implementation of their educational program. Students and their families are the true experts on their needs and can offer valuable insight into what works best.
