Home of the Myhill Portable Planetarium

Marymount University is proud to have a portable planetarium through generous funding provided by:

The Dominion Foundation
The Washington Forest Foundation
The Kiwanis Club
and
The Myhill Fund

The full system is completely portable and can be setup/operated by 1-2 students.

The system consists of a 5-meter inflatable Go-dome (http://www.discoverydome.com/dome_standard.php), one of the world leader's in inflatable dome technology.  This dome can fit up to 30 elementary-aged children or 15 adult-sized individuals for a show.

The system uses a "Newtonian Reflector System" from the good people at e-planetarium (E-Planetarium).  This spherical-mirrored system is a low-cost alternative to more expensive fish-eye projection systems.

We have a suite of pre-made full dome shows coupled with expertise to provide custom planetarium shows to target night sky topics that may interest you.
A sample trailer is provided below:

These pre-made shows include:

Custom topics are possible, with current students trained to provide a tour of highlights of the night sky through the STELLARIUM Planetarium Software followed by a tour of major solar system bodies, including actual footage of the Curiosity rover's Mars landing!

Our system is used for teaching and for outreach to the community and school groups.
