In March 2010, students in the Economics classes created Power Point presentations investigating reasons for the extreme poverty in Haiti that existed even before the recent earthquake. Working in groups students explored the history of of Haiti in colonial times after independence and up to the present time. They studied the geography, politics, natural resources and recent governments existing in Haiti. Throughout the project students were asked to continually think about possible causes for Haiti's current position as one of the poorest countries in the Americas.
In order to complete this project students:
1) Chose a topic;
2) Brainstormed ideas;
3) Searched the Internet for resources connected to their topic and took notes on important facts;
4) Looked for meaningful pictures to illustrate key ideas and attached captions to the pictures;
5) Worked in collaborative teams to develop multimedia presentations;
6) Presented findings to the class.
