Due Friday, May 23 - Students should read through the top of page 255 in The Road.

Due Thursday, May 22 - Students should have read through page 211 of The Road.

Due Tuesday, May 21 - Students should have read through page 178 in The Road.

Due Wednesday, May 15 - Students should have read through page 127 in The Road.

Due Tuesday, May 14 - Students should have read through page 106 in The Road.

Due Friday, May 10 - Students should have read through page 80 of The Road.

Due Wednesday, May 8 - Students should read through the middle of page 60 in The Road.

Due Tuesday, May 7, Students should read through page 33 of The Road. Depending upon which edition you have, make sure to have read through the paragraph
"At every curve it looked as though the pass lay just ahead and then one evening he stopped and looked all about and he recognized it..."

For the remainder of the week, students should be working on their presentations. Remember that this presentation will serve as your unit test on Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Due Tuesday, April 30 - Students should have their playlist for Janie, accompanying letter, and explanatory paragraphs written and ready to share in class.

Due Tuesday, April 23 - Students should have Chapters 16-17 read in Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Due Friday, April 19 - Students should have Chapters 14-15 read in Their Eyes Were Watching God and be prepared for a quiz on 12-15.

Due Thursday, April 18 - Students should have the questions for Chapters 10-13 in Their Eyes Were Watching God completed.

Due Tuesday, April 16 - Students should have chapters 12-13 read in Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Due Tuesday, April 9 - When we return from Easter vacation, students should have Chapters 7-11 read and annotated in Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Due Wednesday, March 27 - Students should have Chapter 6 of Their Eyes Were Watching God read and annotated.

Due Friday, March 22 - Students should have the literary grid and located passages from Chapters 1-5 completed/

Due Thursday, March 14 - Students should read the essay "How It Feels To Be Colored Me" by Zora Neale Hurston. Students should also complete the following:

It has been said that Hurston’s essay “exults that being black may have its challenges, but it also has its opportunities and victories.” Read the essay and underline or highlight passages that support this statement. Then, in a brief paragraph answer: Ultimately, what knowledge about Zora Neale Hurston do you gain from reading this essay by her?

Due Tuesday, March 12 - Students should have journal entries for Chapters 8 and 9 completed and ready to turn in.

Due Friday, March 8 - Students should have Chapter 9 of The Great Gatsby read and annotated.

Due Thursday, March 7 - Students should have Chapter 8 of The Great Gatsby read and annotated.

Due Wednesday, March 6 - Students should have Chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby read and have the journal entry for Chapter 7 completed. I will be collecting journal entries for Chapters 6 and 7 on Wednesday.

Due Tuesday, March 5 - All students should have their Meave poetry contest poem and paragraph completed. In addition, they should have the first half of Chapter 7 read in The Great Gatsby.

Due Tuesday, February 26 - Students should have Chapter 7 read and journal entry completed for The Great Gatsby.

Due Friday, February 22 - Students should be ready for a quiz on Chapters 28-30 in their vocabulary books.

Due Wednesday, February 20 - Students should have Chapter 6 in The Great Gatsby read and annotated. In addition, they should also have their journal entry for Chapter 6 completed.

Due Friday, February 15 - Students should have Chapter 5 read and annotated in The Great Gatsby, and they should also have their journal entry for Chapter 5 completed. In addition, students should be prepared to turn in all of their journal entries for Chapters 1-5 on Friday.

Due Wednesday, February 13 - Students should have their journal entry for Chapter 4 of The Great Gatsby completed.

Due Wednesday, February 6 - Students should have their journal entry for Chapter 3 completed.

Due Tuesday, January 29 - Students should have Chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby read and annotated. In addition, students should be prepared for the vocabulary quiz on chapters 27 and 27 that was originally scheduled for Friday, the 25th.

Due Friday, January 25 - Students should be prepared for a quiz on chapters 26 & 27 in their vocabulary book. In addition, students need to bring their copy of The Great Gatsby to class.

Due Thursday, January 24 - Students should have the questions completed for the short story "Winter Dreams." For those of you on the retreat, those questions can be downloaded under the "Files Class 2" section of the American Literature Tab. Print them out and respond to them. They are labeled "'Winter Dreams' Discussion Questions"

Due Wednesday, January 23 - Students should have the F. Scott Fitzgerald short story "Winter Dreams" read and annotated. This story was given out in class on Friday, and if you were absent you should not have any problem locating a copy of it on the internet.

Due Friday, January 18 - Students should have chapter 27 completed in Advancing Vocabulary for the High School Student.

Due Thursday, January 17 - Students should have the Thomas Whitecloud short story "Blue Winds Dancing" read and closely annotated for Thursday's class.

Due Wednesday, January 16 - Chapter 26 in Advancing Vocabulary for the High School Student.

Due Friday, December 7 - Students should be ready for a vocabulary quiz on chapters 23-25.

Due Thursday, December 6 - Students should have Chapters 20-22 read in The Catcher in the Rye. They should also have their respective Literature Circle page completed and ready to share.

Due Wednesday, December 5 - Students should have Chapter 25 completed in their vocabulary book.

Due Tuesday, December 4 - Students should have Chapters 17-19 read in The Catcher in the Rye. Literature circle role should also be completed.

Due Friday, November 30 - Students should have Chapter 24 done in their vocabulary books.

Due Thursday, November 29 - Students should have Chapters 15-16 read in The Catcher in the Rye as well as their literature circle role sheets completed.

Due Tuesday, November 27 - Students should have Chapters 12-14 read in The Catcher in the Rye. In addition, they should also have their literature circle role sheet completed and be prepared to partake in the discussion using their findings.

Due Tuesday, November 20 - Students should have Chapter 23 in their vocabulary books completed. Also, please bring your copy of The Catcher in the Rye.

Due Wednesday, November 14 - Students should have read through Chapter 9 in The Catcher in the Rye.

Due Friday, November 9 - Students should be prepared for a vocabulary quiz on Chapters 20-22. Also, be sure to bring your copy of The Catcher in the Rye.

Due Thursday, November 8 -Students should have done pre-writing for the in-class essay they will write Thursday. Make sure you have your copy of the song lyrics, your copy of The Catcher in the Rye, and your notes for the writing assignment.

Due Friday, October 26 - Students should have chapter 21 completed in their vocabulary book. Students should also bring their copy of The Catcher in the Rye to class.

Due Thursday, October 25 - Students will have their test on Huck Finn on Thursday during class.

Due Wednesday, October 24 - Students should have the assignment looking at the 3 levels of the novel completed and ready to share in class.

Due Thursday, October 18 - Students should have chapters 39-41 read in Huck Finn

Due Tuesday, October 16 - Students should have through Chapter 38 read in Huck Finn.

Due Friday, October 12 - students should have the Plot Notes for chapters 25-30 done, and students should also have the questions for chapters 32-35 done.

Due Thursday, October 11 - Students should have read through chapter 35 in Huck Finn for Thursday's class.

Due Wednesday, October 10 - Mr. Costello will be in our class on Wednesday to discuss the PSAT test that you all as juniors will be taking on National Testing Day, Wednesday, October 17.

Due Tuesday, October 9 - Students should have read through chapter 30 in Huck Finn for Monday's class.  

Due Friday, October 5 - have Chapters 25-28 read in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In addition, students should also have the study questions for the chapters completed as well.

Due Thursday, September 27 - Students should be prepared for a test on the first 23 chapters of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Due Wednesday, September 5 - students should have chapters 4-7 in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn read and be prepared for a reading quiz on the assigned chapters.

Due Friday, August 31 - Students should have chapters 1-3 read in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn read for Friday's class.

Due Thursday, August 30 - Students can expect to have a quiz on vocabulary chapters 16 and 17.

Due Wednesday, August 29 - Students should read the short excerpts from Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay "Self-Reliance" as well as the excerpt from Henry David Thoreau's work, "Resistance to Civil Government." We will discuss these in class on Wednesday.

Due Tuesday, August 28, students should read and annotate the Time magazine article titled "Keeping the Dream Alive." Be prepared to discuss this article in class on Tuesday.

Due Friday, August 24: Students will have an in class writing assignment on the summer read, The Tortilla Curtain. In addition, students should also have their study guide for The Tortilla Curtain completed.

Due Thursday, August 23: Students should have chapter 17 in their vocabulary books completed. 

Due Wednesday, August 22: Students should have chapter 16 in their Advancing Vocabulary for the High School Student finished.
