Greetings Fellow Control liners
On May 21, 2011 The Scouts (Boy and Girl) and a lot of parents came to MAPS and met the Akron Skymasters and were introduced to the wonderful world of Control Line flying.
What a great day! The sun was shining and the faces were smiling. The MAPS Group had set up a near perfect program to see that all the scouts were exposed to all of the exhibits there which included the Skymasters. They did this by dividing all the Scouts into small groups and scheduling them through all of the stations in half hour increments. Every group that came to the Skymasters got to see a fuel up, engine start, and a complete flight. I would like to thank Gary Tultz and Dave Johnson for their efforts. Both Dave and Gary were there all day, to be sure that everyone got to see what control line flying is all about. I had the easy job, all I had to do is what I do best anyway, flap my jaws! The greatest part of the whole day came after the scheduled events. We had close to a dozen Scouts come back to the flight line with their parents to get a demo flight!
The plan for MAPS is to put on this event twice a year and invite different Scouting troops from Stark and Summit counties.
I have a few pictures for y’all and as I get more I’ll post them.
This was just one of the many groups that came
We brought lots of planes
The Old guy actually flew
Hey Rog, It's behind ya
The old guy doesn't have a clue
Would you believe me if I said it was a Stealth Bomber?
